Scott Wagstaff becomes new Youth Team Manager

Waggy

The club is delighted to announce the appointment of Scott Wagstaff as our new Youth Team Manager.

Scott replaces Joe Dunne who left the Gills last month and has subsequently joined Colchester United in a similar role.

Wagstaff, 35, made 66 appearances as a player during his time at MEMS Priestfield Stadium (2016-2018), scoring four goals. He started his new role on Monday and will work alongside Academy Manager Bryan Bull and Head of Coach Development, Mark Patterson.

Scott began his career at Charlton Athletic, aged just eight years old, advancing through the system and eventually made his first-team debut in April 2008 as a second-half substitute against Barnsley at Oakwell.

He enjoyed loan spells at Northwich, Bournemouth and Leyton Orient before tasting his first promotion of his career, featuring 40 times for the Addicks during the 2011/12 season as Charlton returned to the Championship as league champions.

In the summer of 2013, Scott signed for Bristol City on a three-year contract and was part of the side that won the League One title in 2014-15. He made 90 appearances during his time at Ashton Gate, netting nine goals.

In the summer of 2016 he made the move to ME7, signing a two-year deal. He scored his first goal in a 3-3 draw at Chesterfield in September of the same year.

Following the expiration of his contract Scott signed for AFC Wimbledon and was at the club for two years. He then joined Forest Green on a one-year contract in August 2020.

Spells at Aldershot and Bromley followed before he signed for Tonbridge Angels in 2022.

On returning to the club, Wagstaff said: "I am really excited. It's a massive club; I played here and the fan base is excellent. For me, I think this was definitely the right move at the right time.

"I can't wait to get stuck into it now."

Bryan Bull added: "We are delighted to welcome "Waggy" back to the club. Finding a replacement to replace Joe (Dunne) was always going to be difficult but we are delighted to get someone of Scott's calibre in to fill the vacancy.

"We are sure that both the current, and future, apprentices will learn massively from him over the course of the coming seasons."

An interview with Scott will appear on our channels in due course.
