Jonny Smith knows that Harrogate Town will pose a dangerous threat as Gillingham travel to North Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon.
The winger made his first start since the reverse fixture in last Saturday's victory against Newport, and he reiterated just how important winning can be in boosting the confidence throughout the squad.
Smith also outlined his expectations for the second half of the campaign, and he hopes to keep himself on the pitch, playing in front of the Gillingham supporters.
On Saturday’s game…
Harrogate was one of the last games that I had started before Saturday, and they were a good side. We know that they are dangerous. You can’t underestimate anyone in this league. That’s what I have realised since I have been here, everyone has got threats.
Saturday is going to be tough, but we need to kick on now and get back to where we were earlier in the season.
How winning can change the mindset…
You start looking at the table more positively, and start believing again that you can get up the league. Wins breed confidence, and confidence is probably the biggest thing in football. It makes everyone play that four to five per cent better.
You could see how much it meant to the fans at the end. It felt like a big win. Hopefully, we can build on that now.
Personal expectations for the second half of the season…
To play as many games as I can, obviously. I missed the majority of the first half of the season, and I just want to play. The feeling that I got after Saturday was great; I felt really good afterwards. Just to be back out there with the lads and playing. There is no better feeling than playing in front of fans, especially our fans. It’s great to play at home in front of them.
