Cirino | "There was no other place I wanted to be"

Lenni Cirino says he is ready when called upon after signing a contract extension until the end of the season.

Cirino, 22, arrived at MEMS Priestfield Stadium in July having featured in a number of pre-season games for the Gills and has, to date, played nine times. He scored on his EFL debut against Chesterfield in August.

Speaking to the club website he said: "There was no other place where I wanted to be; the fans have been brilliant with me when I've played and all of the boys are great and I am happy to have signed the extension.

"I am feeling good; I am back on the grass and progressing very well so it shouldn't be too long until I am back on the pitch."

His return to training follows a spell on the sidelines due to an ankle injury, and the defender was quick to praise the team behind the scenes for their work in getting him match fit as soon as possible.

He added: “The staff have helped me a lot and this isn’t something that has happened to me before. They gave me a plan, helped me out with what to do, and when to do it, and that seems to be working so far!

“A lot of people probably don’t know how it feels to not be on the grass and seeing the boys train while you are in the gym doing constant weights to get you back to where you were.”

Gills head to Harrogate this weekend looking to achieve back-to-back wins, and Lenni says the squad know only too well what to expect.

He said: “Well Harrogate are the ones that ended our 21-game unbeaten run so we know what we need to do when we go there.

“We will take each game as it comes, that is all you can do. We know what we are capable of, we need to keep being consistent in games.”
