Gaffer | "We are going to respect them"

Gareth Ainsworth is keen to get back to winning ways when Gillingham host Tranmere Rovers at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.

The Gills boss knows that they will have to respect Saturday's opponents, but hopes that they can repay the supporters for their patience and secure all three points.

Omar Beckles made his debut for the Football Club in the midweek defeat at Notts County, and Ainsworth gave insight into what he believes the centre-back will bring to the team. He also provided an update on Conor Masterson, as they await further information on his injury.

On Saturday's fixture...

They are a team that we will definitely have to have huge respect for. We went up there and were lucky to get a 1-1 draw.

We are going to respect them, bring them to Priestfield and play the way that we play, and hopefully, come away with the win.

I think that these fans have been patient, and they want to win at home. Away from home, we try to pick things up, and had we picked up a point from Notts County, I think that it would have been a great result. Getting back to winning at home would be fantastic, and that would put Tuesday's game to bed.

Adaptability and using multiple formations...

Flexibility is what I am probably known for. We have changed formation and we're quite unique, but other teams have done that in the past, and other teams will do it in the future. I have got two or three different formations that we can play, but I don't think that any teams play that set way the whole season. Everyone has changed.

We play the formation that wins, and hopefully, that will be on Saturday.

On what Omar Beckles will bring to the team...

Omar is going to add this leadership to us and this experience. He has multiple promotions and has played in some high-level games in the play-offs for the Championship. Omar is a very assured professional, and is going to lead these boys and add to the likes of [Garath] McCleary and [Sam] Vokes in that dressing room, and [Bradley] Dack and [Armani] Little.

What I will say is that he is willing to learn as well. He is ready to get stuck in. No manager plays the same way. We all have different principles and have different variations to the way that we do things, and Omar wants to learn a bit more, and to also step in and give his input and his personality on this team.

Update on Conor Masterson...

Conor's picked up a knock and we are going to have to tread carefully with him. When we get more information about how long he is going to be out, I will let everyone know. At the moment, Conor is probably going to be missing for the next couple of games.

It's the other leg, which is better, obviously, because you never like a recurrence of injuries.

I have got a fantastic medical team and sports science outfit here, so we trust them.
