Morris | "We want to put it right"

Glenn

Glenn Morris is hoping that Gillingham can use Saturday’s game against Tranmere Rovers as an opportunity to turn a corner.

The goalkeeper is expecting a difficult afternoon at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium, but believes that if they can replicate some of the recent performances, outside of the first-half against Bromley, then they will be okay.

Morris returned to the starting XI in the 3-2 win against Newport and is glad to be back out on the pitch. He also touched upon how the game has changed throughout his career as a goalkeeper.

Looking at Saturday…

Any game is difficult in this league, and sometimes the form table does go out the window, so you can’t look on paper at what it will be. We can’t take it easy, that’s for sure. It will be a tough game, there is no two ways about it.

If we perform like we can do, and we have shown over the last four games, it has been one half of football that has been pretty poor. If we can keep up the three quarters of the form and take it into Saturday, then we will be okay.

A determination to put things right...

Obviously, we want to put it right and get a win, first and foremost. I think that's the most important thing, and we want a performance as well.

We had Bromley here last Saturday, and the first 25 minutes wasn't really us. We got punished, and they are top of the league for a reason. It wasn't good enough.

We are disappointed, and I am sure that the fans are. That's football. We want to turn a corner and start moving a little bit further up the league. We don't need to worry too much; we just have to concentrate on beating Tranmere and then keep moving up.

Coming back into the team and relationship with Jake Turner…

We got on really well, and it’s a good union. It’s one of them, as we all want to play. There’s only one goalkeeper that can play at a time. It’s a difficult one, but I am pleased to be back in.

We got two wins at the start but then had back-to-back defeats, so it would be nice to get back on the winning run, starting Saturday.

How the game has changed as a goalkeeper…

For sure. You are asked to do more and more, with the ball at your feet, especially. Managers are much more demanding of goalkeepers nowadays. When I first came in, it was literally catch it and kick it.

Football has adapted, and you have to go with it.
