Gaffer | "We are ready"

Gareth Ainsworth says his team will give absolutely everything and empty the tank as they travel to Cumbria to face Barrow on Saturday.

The Gills boss is expecting a difficult game against a Barrow side near the foot of the League Two table, knowing that they will be battling to take a crucial three points for themselves.

With the previous weekend's defeat to Oldham in the rear-view mirror, Ainsworth is happy with the response he has seen in his players, crediting the senior pros for playing their part in shifting the focus to Saturday's fixture.

The 52-year-old provided an update on Garath McCleary, who came off at half-time against Oldham due to a knock, and praised the Gillingham supporters, knowing they will provide fantastic support at Holker Street.

On Saturday's game at Barrow...

All that I can ask of the boys is for them to give their best, and I always give my best. Usually, that best is good enough, but Barrow will be a dangerous team. They will be tough, they will scrap for everything, and they are down in the relegation battle, and they want to get out of that. Dino Maamria is obviously renowned for getting his teams to work hard, and I am very respectful of the managerial jobs that he has done over the years. I am looking forward to seeing him, but I want to win the game.

It's a lovely part of the world, Cumbria. It's going to be a long trek, but we are ready. By the way, Dino's teams aren't just fighters and scrappers, they will try and play as well, so we have got to be ready for everything on Saturday. We will be, we are together.

Like I say, if you give your best, then that is what you can do. That has always been my mantra.

The reaction in the camp after last Saturday's defeat...

People like Bradley [Dack], Sam [Vokes] and Garath [McCleary] have been there and done it. Omar [Beckles] and the over-30s I have got in the team, Glenn Morris, they have all been in it, seen it and done it, and know how it works. Some of the younger players probably haven't experienced stuff like that. Some have come into the team, some are really in the fledglings of their career.

The experienced boys know and are great to learn off. With Bradley saying those things, and the other experienced players, they know that they came off it for one game. For one reason or another, we look at the game and try and dissect what went wrong, and we have come up with a few answers.

We feel more like ourselves this week. Honestly, I feel for the boys, because they were up and down that motorway, and I know that we have to recover, and I know that we have to do it right, and I know that it is all on me, and I am the manager, and I manage everyone here, so that is fair enough. Sometimes, you ask them to run through a brick wall, and they just can't.

I will make sure that on Saturday, they can. They are going to empty the tank and give absolutely everything.

Update on Garath McCleary...

Garath limped off, and we are still looking at Garath and assessing whether he could be involved at the weekend. He was a big loss at half-time for us. He was probably one of our most productive players going forward in the first-half, especially in that last 20 minutes.

When I got the news that he was feeling a muscle and that we have to get him off, I was gutted, I really was. If I can get Garath in the team, he is a real asset for us.

The continued fantastic support...

I know that there is going to be some good away support. There always is. Gillingham fans travel so well; they are great. I totally understand the reaction at the end of the game. They pay their money and watch the game, and that is the pantomime of football sometimes, and that happens.

We hope to put that all right at Barrow on Saturday.
