Sam Vokes is looking forward to playing in front of what is going to be a packed MEMS Priestfield Stadium for this Saturday’s fixture against Bromley.
The visitors head to ME7 on a 10-game unbeaten run in the league, and Vokes knows that the Gills will need to take the game to their opponents.
Despite a difficult run of results heading into the New Year, the former Wales international reiterated how the team spirit never dwindled, crediting the staff for keeping morale high.
Vokes also touched upon the signing of Ronan Hale from Ross County, and looks forward to potentially playing alongside the forward.
On Saturday's fixture...
I am really looking forward to it. I am probably looking forward to it more after the postponement on Tuesday night, and the lads are in a good place after a couple of wins. We seemed to have turned a corner, and that confidence seems to be back in the group. There is no better place than bringing the league leaders back to our place on Saturday at home at Priestfield. I am looking forward to it.
I know what the fans can bring to this Football Club. I have seen it first-hand at the start of the season. It's a local derby, and they are league leaders, so it's for us to take it to them. We know where we want to get to at the end of the season. We are halfway towards that job.
These are the days that we need to step up as a team and as a club, and get the result that we need.
The team spirit in the squad…
It’s always there. I think that’s hats off to the manager and the staff, really, for still keeping that team spirit alive in the dressing room. It’s a great dressing room to be a part of. There are some good lads in there, and some lads that really care about playing for this Football Club as well. That’s important, and hopefully, that can stand us strong going into this second part of the season.
The signing of Ronan Hale…
I’ve been around and seen it all, so I think that having new faces in the building, everyone feels a bit of an edge, but for me, he seems like a great asset.
You see the stuff that he has done up in Scotland, and the way that he plays. I think that even in training today, you could see how sharp he is. For someone like that, it would be great to play alongside, whether it is me or Josh [Andrews], whoever gets partnered with him. It can only add to us with the goals that he can add to this squad this year.
