Gills new signing Omar Beckles says he still has “so much to give” after joining the club on transfer deadline day.
Beckles, 34, arrives at MEMS Priestfield Stadium after leaving Leyton Orient and adds experience to the defensive ranks with a lot of games coming up in such a short space of time.
The centre-back is ready to get going and can’t wait to put on the shirt for the first time.
Speaking to the club’s media team he said: "I am delighted to get this over the line. It’s a club that has been interested for a little while now. The Gaffer has played a big part in that and I think it's an amazing project to be a part of.
“I want to be a part of something. I've still got that appetite and desire to want to achieve. I really believe in the project, I am really excited to be a part of it.
“There is so much scope and potential and it’s crying out for some success and progress.”
Beckles is looking forward to working under manager Gareth Ainsworth and he believes the former Wycombe boss is the perfect person to get the best out of him.
He added: “I have seen him bring the best out of people no matter where they are in their careers – you could be really young or you could be a senior individual and he is still able to extract the best out of you and I’ve still got so much to give.
“I think he is the right person to bring the best out of me what is left in my career.”
The former Shrewsbury man has a League Two promotion under his belt already and he outlined what he feels is key to achieving success.
He said: “I think you need the right culture, environment and togetherness. That holds you in good stead to be able to ride those difficult moments in a season.
“It won’t always be plain sailing, you need the character and determination to have the resilience to come and face adversity and bounce back.
“That is going to be key, but also that humility and discipline to take each game as it comes. You can get carried away with results – never be too high and never too low.
“All you can do is think about the next game.”
